Hello Dr N, I started the protocol and I am realizing that I made a mistake with the Inulin dose. I was so eager to start the protocol that I did not read correctly and started my 5 year old with 1/8 of a CUP of inulin. I feel terrible. He has been taking that dose for a month, I have seen a lot of gains, a lot more engagement and more words. He has been initiating play with other kids and over all he has been doing great. Also he has been having BM every day. Im reducing the dose immediately. Should I be worried? Please help.

      No, don’t worry.

You’ve just proven the points I constantly harp on, inulin is safe and always read the protocol before starting.

    Hello Dr Nemechek,
I am from India and I have a 4 year old kid on autism spectrum. I have completed reading you book a few times and we are starting on the protocol very soon. We have been taking homeopathic medicines for past 5 months with a doctor who works specifically with autistic kids. We have been getting good results so far but my kid is still very thin and fragile looking. His sleep and progress is slow but not stuck anywhere.

Is it fine to continue with homeopathic medicine and start protocol as well?

I do not recommend mixing the 2 approaches.

Hi Dr. Nemechek, I noticed your commenting layout here on the blog is very confusing and hard to follow your answers to each person. Have you tried to adjust the settings in your WordPress dashboard so that it will allow for “nested” comments?

If you go to “Settings”… “Discussion”… you can check “enable threaded (nested) comments.” And you can set it for 2 levels deep. That way each time you reply to a question or post on your blog, the reply will be directly tied underneath that post. Feel free to email me and I can help you if you need it.

Thanks. I have someone running this for me but have made the changes you suggested.

    • Joe 6 months ago

Great! Already looks and feels a million times better. However, unfortunately I didn’t get a notification or email that you had responded to my comment. So if I were to not check back on this post (that is, if I still remembered where it was) then I would have never of seen your reply. The good news is, there is a plugin that allows for this feature. I use it on a couple of my websites and it works great. Here is the link so your developer can check it out…

Again, feel free to reach out if you need any help. We bought your book and our son is on the protocol. It has helped him in many ways. So anything I can do to help, let me know. 🙂

Thank you so much for your assistance. This should be in place within a week.

Any future suggestions on this site or others would be greatly appreciated.

      Dr. N

You should definitely get better engagement in your blog now.

One more suggestion would be to enable the threaded (nested) comments to “2 levels deep.” The reason being, if you begin to reply back and forth multiple times like we are now, on a mobile phone the conversation will get squeezed very tightly from the indentation of each comment. For example, take a look at our dialog on this page from your mobile phone and you’ll see what I mean. Setting it for 2 levels deep will still keep the width of the comments container to a readable size.

      Gotcha, thanks. Adjustment made.

Any way to allow users to search just comments for a topic? My people told me no.

    Dear Dr. Nemechek

My 6.2 years old has been on protocol from the 6 of april 2018.
Everything has been so well. He stays on the dosage of 1 tsp Now inulin, 2000 mg Omega 3 (Nordic natural, lemon flavour) and 30 ml California olive oil (I use all recommended brands)
Since 29 may 2018, it means Tuesday last week, he started to get red eyes, itchy everywhere on his body. I thought it was the allergy problem which was connected to the spring season. Every spring or summer, my son has this allergy and I just need to give him antihistamines then it is disappeared.

But this time it doesn’t. Instead, it gets worst and worst. He gets red everywhere, very itchy and pimples all around his face, his neck, even on his head… His eyes are scratching and wet all the time. Sometimes there is coming some golden liquid from his eyes. It is really tough to see him like that.

Our doctor was unsure so they gave my son medicine for both allergy and infection. The last 5 days he gets antihistamines, antibiotics and penicillin but it doesn’t seem to help.

I wonder if you think this can connected to protocol? Can it be that my son has allergy for any oil or inulin? If it is the case, how can it be that he did not have problem the last two months, since we started protocol, but first now?

Somebody suggests me to stop the protocol for now and reintroduce it again later, is it a good idea?
Somebody tells me to change to Now omega 3 instead of Nordic Natural and then go back to Nordic Natural later when the problem is gone. Does it sound like a good idea?

If I stop the protocol for now, then when I reintroduce him later, should I start with one by one, or all 3 at the same times? What dosage should I start with?

I read that many get itchy skin when they are on protocol. Do you have any advise for us?
I am sorry for many questions. I know you are very busy but I hope to hear your advise.

Now that antibiotics have been thrown into the mix its hard to tell what’s going on.

I’ve never seen the protocol ingredients cause something like this.

Stop everything. Let his skin heal and start over with the same ingredients as long as your managing doc agrees.

Hi Dr Nemechek, we started the protocol on 11 Jan 2018 with the following dosage:
    1. Now Food Inulin 1/16tsp
    2. Nordic Naturals fish oil 3/4tsp
    3. California Olive Ranch, Arbosana EVOO ingest 1/4tbsp
    4. Cobram EVOO for cooking
and our current dosage since 6 May 2018:
    1. Now Food Inulin 1/4tsp morning 1/4tsp evening
    2. Now Food DHA500 1 capsule
    3. California Olive Ranch, Arbosana EVOO ingest 1/2tbsp morning 1/2tbsp evening
    4. Cobram EVOO for cooking
My boy is turning 7 in July and he’s within the spectrum. Prior to NP, we did biomed for 2.5 years and he’s still doing OT, ST and ABA. He’s verbal, can express his needs and wants but can’t have a back and forth conversation yet. He’s fully potty trained but when we are doing the protocol, he bed wets consistently and even had few accidents at home and school. So far he’s back to normal now, bed wets once. His eye contact is better, very prompt when we ask him to do stuff and pretty aware. Our biggest challenge now is he’s running and climbing non stop, verbal stimming heaps. This was present even before NP but has gotten a lot more worse since we did this. His aggression is bearable, not extreme so we thought of pressing on. What do you think we should do? Let the oils heal and stop inulin first or we continue to increase the dosages after 10 days? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks much.

Other than his fish oil dose is near the low end of the dosing range for his age, you are just traversing through the awakening on your way to a much happier, functional child.

      Hope you are well.

Is it best to avoid foods that have propionic acid as we are trying to lower propionic acid in the brain? Are apples ok to eat as they contain propianate acid and there are some research that shows that it does increase the growth of the clostridium bacteria which produces propionic acid?

    • Author
Patrick Nemechek, D.O. 10 months ago

I don’t think reducing propionic acid containing foods is necessary.

Hi Dr Nemechek, I’ve been following your blog and success stories with great interest and my 9yr old is following the protocol. He has been diagnosed with Pyrolle disorder and Undermethylation. Have you treated and seen results for patients with this condition and do you believe that correcting the ANS will improve this?

Patrick Nemechek, D.O. 10 months ago

I have several kids with the same diagnoses and they seem to recovery just as well as the other kids without taking the supplements often prescribed for these conditions.

In the protocol we don’t use probiotics, but what about fermented foods like kefir, fermented vegetables etc?
    Thank you for your comment

      Traditionally fermented foods are OK.

Greetings! In November we started with a protocol and at full doses it was from mid-December. Since March, I started to increase my dose because there was no progress. In April, we had 20 entries in the hyperbaric chamber, which made it terrible, the hyper phase did not stop, but I thought that he would mean it to him for the whole immunity. But the child is constantly ill, with obstructions in the lungs, now allergies to pollen have appeared, which makes him nervous in addition. He took a gabu and a solgar kongavites, and for two years he did not have rhnitis. I know what to do next.Do I do some extra blood tests, lack of vitamins ..?

When things spin out of control like this I find the best thing to do is stop the supplements, oils etc but continue prescription medications for seizures and the like.

See where the child levels out at and then start our protocol anew.
